Photographing fireflies

This is an unfinished oil I started in 2002.  The case belonged to my father.  The photos are source images for other oil paintings, including this one of my daughter and her mom in Kingston, Ontario in the summer of 2001.

Early in the morning of Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 I walked into the marsh on the west side of the Humber River to try to photograph some fireflies. This first photo is with no flash and I am not sure if those orange lights are actually fireflies. The second photo is with a flash and there is at least one firefly on a bullrush stalk somewhere.

I definitely had better luck photographing other bugs in daylight, including a green bee and some red, for the lack of a better word, bugs.

I noticed a lot of albino chicory about that day as well.

And the blackberries were beginning to ripen.

It was a hot day so I had some cold Korean noodles known as naengmyon for dinner.
